Jet-setting!

Today why I am taking my 3rd nursing test of the summer... my husband will be doing this:

Flying... in a PRIVATE JET... to California

no these are not ACTUAL pictures... he will send me real pictures at the end of the day to make me even more jealous than I already am

NOT FAIR!

But seriously, I'm so happy for him... he can officially mark an item off of his lifetime bucket list!

I'm a STAR... in my head

So yesterday I mentioned I would be in the simulation lab taking care of my fake patient, aka mannequin.

As expected, I was super creeped out.  It also didn't help that I had TWO nursing instructors watching me in the room AND I was being video/audiotaped.  I had to do some pretty basic nursing skills but was such a nervous wreck I am sure I didn't do that well.

Then my "patient" had a medical emergency.  I had to react fast and figure out what to do.  Lucky for me I am a genius I had a really "easy" emergency.  All in all, I think I did ok but sure am glad that is over.

Why is it that taking care of my fake patient was so much more stressful than taking care of my real ones?

****
Today we are back at the school... it is also the birthday of two of my instructors.  I am bringing cupcakes so I can suck up to celebrate.  Yep, I am just THAT nice.

I keep waiting for my "star student" award... but I guess they only give those out in elementary school.. DARN.... because that would be SWEET :)

Fake Patients

Usually we spend every Thursday and Friday in the hospital taking care of patients.

However this week is a little different.  Today we are working in a simulation room with a life-like mannequin.

This mannequin can breath, talk, blink and have all sorts of medical emergencies. Here is an example of what this guy looks like... kind of creepy right??

I have no idea what to expect but hope I can hold my own in the simulation room today.  Wish me luck!!

Wordless Wednesday

Wordless Wednesday -- oh how I have missed thee....

These were taken at a wedding in one of those super fun photobooths.

If you are planning a wedding, you HAVE to get a photobooth!
They are so much fun!

Beyond Ready

So now lets get up to date.

I am in summer school right now and we are studying pediatrics.

Soon enough I am going to have to decide where I want to do a practicum.  I can basically pick any area of the hospital and pick a nurse to "shadow" for 1 month.  I have no clue where I am going to end up.  Areas that I have enjoyed the most:

*Mother/Baby
*Labor&Delivery
*NICU
*Post-Surgical - orthopedic floor

So who knows... I may pick one of those places or may end up somewhere new altogether.   All I know is I am BEYOND ready to graduate and get out of nursing school!!!

Let's hope these next 6 months (err, 5 months and 25 days... but who's counting??) fly by!!

In other Walter news:
  • Justin and I just celebrated our 3 year anniversary on 6/7/11
  • Gracie turned 6 on 6/8/11... since we were gone most the day, she decided to throw her very own birthday party... looks like she had fun too!
  • We are soon taking a Walter family trip -- ALL of the Walter's... we haven't all been together in... well.... 3 years I guess.  So this is a big deal.  We are heading to Denver, Colorado.  Any suggestions on fun things to do or see while we are there??

Once upon a time there was a girl that had a blog... But then life happened and she forgot all about it....

I can't promise my blogging will become "regular" anytime soon...  I graduate in less than 6 months and my life is CRAZY right now ... but I genuinely miss blogging and am going to try to do it as often as I can.

I think I got so caught up with "followers" and who was reading and who wasn't that I forgot what my blog was really for....

You know... it's for me.  It's a scrapbook into my life and a way to remember all the fun things I have done and hope to do.

So my posts may be sporadic but that is ok... because that is the best I can do.
