Weekend Recap
I spent last weekend hanging out with my parents and it was so much fun.
My mom and I volunteered all day on Saturday.
Then we went to a baseball game that night.
Look at my parents sweet dogs:
From Left - Right and Top-Bottom: Oscar, Rusty, Palin (as in Sarah Palin), Piper (as in Piper Palin, Sarah's daughter), and Peanut
Yay for a great weekend.
Only 2 more weeks of school until I am out for the summer... anyone have any fun summer plans??

Walking for a CURE
This will be my second year participating in Walk MS. A good friend of mine, Jonathan, was diagnosed with MS at age 26 after showing symptoms for nearly a year. His symptoms range from numbness throughout his whole body to vision impairment and slurred speech. Although his case is not nearly as severe as many, he has daily reminders through constant numbness in his right hand as well as self medicating through injections.
I have also met some wonderful bloggers that either suffer with MS or have loved ones that do.
- Diet Coke Filled Life - MS battler
- Norma Lee Good - MS battler
- Llama Tales - Her mother battles MS
- The End of the Rainbow - Her best friend has MS
- In the Trenches - Her dad had MS
- Ashley's Antics - Her grandmother had MS
I love all of my blog friends and want to know I am also walking for you guys!
Last year our team raised $7650.
This year our team's goal is $5000. We are currently at $2042 with a little less than a month less for fundraising. If you are able to help, I would love you to consider donating to my team. Even $1 can make a difference. Together we can work for a cure!!

WW Surgery
Last week I got to be a (student) OR Nurse. It was oh so much fun watching all the different surgeries. I got to see a breast mastopexy and a laproscopic hernia repair that turned into an "open" procedure. I was thrilled to be there -- it was just like being in Grey's Anatomy. There was even a picture of "McDreamy" in the locker room.
Sorry the picture is so blurry... we took it with a camera phone.

(incase you can't tell which one is me.... I am the 3rd from the left)

Anti-Bacterial Wipes...STAT
My friend told me this story and I just HAD to tell you guys.
To protect her privacy, I will call her "K".
"K" is a student nurse, like me.
One day at the hospital she was taking care of her patient just like any other day. She was having a little trouble because her patient that day was rather LARGE -- and not just a little overweight -- he weighed approx. 400lbs. He was also completely immobile (unable to reposition himself, get up to go to the bathroom, etc).
Patients that are immobile need to be repositioned every 2 hrs so they do not get bed sores. Needless to say, when it was time to reposition this patient, "K" needed some help. She would just call over some other student nurses, they would reposition him, and then go about their business as usual.
At some point during the day, "K" noticed that she had misplaced her phone. She started looking EVERYWHERE for it.
Then she got a fluttery feeling in the gut of her stomach..............
She begin to think her phone had fallen out during one of the repositions of her patient. She mentioned that one time in particular they were having a hard time and she was putting all of her might into turning this guy onto his side.
She kept searching but something was telling her it was in her patient's room.
Sure enough.... she found her phone.....
RIGHT UNDERNEATH HIS BUTT!!!
She said she cleaned that thing within an inch of its life.... but even now no one ever asks to borrow her phone.

Another accident in my driveway
So you guys remember my story of how I ran over myself with my OWN car?
Well, I had another accident.... in my own DRIVEWAY.
What happened this time?
Well, I got in my car...
Pushed the button for the garage door to open...
And SLAM!!!!!!!
I backed up into the garage door before it finished opening.
The door came off the track because the wheel flew off. The door was pushed out far enough that it hit our keyless entry on the side of our house and EXPLODED it all over the driveway.
I am panicking... my husband was out of town for a week. I don't know how to use tools?! Who do I call?
Then my neighbors come. Not just any neighbor but the neighbor that saw me RUN OVER MYSELF the first time I had an accident in my driveway. The other neighbor that came to help was a neighbor that one of my girlfriends accidently spilled a whole glass of wine on during a block party (and who hasn't spoken to us since that incident).
Have you ever just wanted to die on the spot? I have never been so embarrassed. Weren't there any other neighbors available??
They patched it up enough to let me lower the door and lock it and call the garage door fixer people but it ended up costing us $300 to fix... ugh.
Now when my neighbors see me driving down the road they grab their children and run far away from me. But I am not dangerous while driving down the road...
I am ONLY dangerous in my OWN driveway

Family Fridays - All about Mom
Ya'll have heard a lot of funny stories about my mom. How she improvises to find Christmas Brocolli, how she once thought she won a ton of money with Dr. Pepper bottle caps, and how she sometimes finds lipgloss all over her self.
One thing I have never really talked about is the battle she goes through on a daily basis. In 2002, she had a brain aneurysm. It was the scariest day of my life. I thought I was going to lose her that day. She pulled through and seemed to be getting better when all of the sudden we were told she had meningitis. She made it through that and finally came home almost 2 weeks after being admitted.
Over the past few years she has now started struggling with some new issues. She was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a disorder that makes my mom struggle with chronic pain almost all the time. Some times are worse than others like when she is stressed or tries to do too much. She tries her best not to let it run her life, but I have seen the toll it takes on her. This is one of my favorite pictures from last year but what it doesn't show is that my mom could hardly get out of bed for 2 days after going on this tube ride with me and my stepdad.
Recently, she also developed a sleeping disorder which to me is the scariest of her health problems. Her sleep pattern at night is pretty much non-existent. In order to get sleep, she will often just fall asleep at the drop of a hat at random times -- at BAD times -- like when she is driving a car or standing up. She will just fall asleep and sometimes that means she has BIG falls. She was taken to the hospital one time when she fell because she cracked open her head by hitting it on a counter and had to get staples put in.
I worry about her all the time. I try to spend the time I have with her smiling and laughing but I know that behind that fun there is a serious problem that I wish I could fix. She is my best friend and I cannot imagine a day without her and I hope she knows that.
