Oh How I love thee

Does anyone else use NETFLIX?

We just started using it about a week ago and I am obsessed. We did the option where you can have 2 movies out at once which is awesome. That way you will always have one movie at home and one in the mail (either being sent back or coming to your house).

You also have the option of watching movies over your computer whenever you want (for no extra cost per month).

We love to watch movies on this in our backyard:

Yes, we are weird and have an inflatable movie screen for our backyard. We blow it up whenever we want to watch a movie at night (which is quite often). We have to be careful about what we watch since we do have neighbors close by... so nothing rated R is usually played outside. Oh, and please don't judge our lack of grass... this was taken awhile back when we had major water restrictions and all of our grass died.. boo.

Not Me! Monday

This blog carnival was created by Mcmama. Head on over to her blog to see what everyone else is not doing this week.

This week when my in-laws came, they did not bring 9 cases of beer and 4 HUGE bottles of belvedere vodka for us.

This did NOT make me realize we need to have a party ASAP to get rid of all of that booze... (I mean, really...two people can't drink that much).

We did NOT spend way too much money at our favorite restaurant (because sometimes its nice to treat yourselves) before going to watch phantom of the opera saturday night. Our waitress did NOT tell me she loved my dress and would LOVE to try it on...what does that even mean? Hubby and I had a good laugh about it.

We did NOT take little Gracie to the dog park this weekend only to have her bark at every dog in the park including this little puppy named "Ebay"

I did NOT show up to work this morning to find out I was sitting all day with a lady that is confused. When getting the report from the CNA on nightshift, I was NOT told that she thought the lady could walk ok to and from the bathroom by herself. I did NOT then find out the lady only has one leg.. The other leg had only half of a foot... She was definitely NOT able to walk... which means the other sitter basically did nothing all night long since she didn't know that... that did NOT make me really upset.

And that is enough of what I have NOT done or experienced over the weekend...what about you? What have you not done?

Whistle While I Clean

I HATE CLEANING... but the in-laws are coming so I. MUST. CLEAN.

I have dusted, vacuumed, mopped and scrubbed all day long.

I recently become obsessed with these

I just love them.  My favorite scent is "Clean Linen".  It makes the whole house smell nice and fresh and clean.  I put one in all the bathrooms, all the bedrooms, and the living room.  Now you are probably thinking I am trying to cover up some kind of weird funky smell in my house... I promise this is not the case.  I just love the nice fresh scent.

Hopefully by the time they get here, I will be ready for them in my nice clean house

I Scream, You Scream

We all scream for ICE CREAM!!

About a month ago, BLC at "The Company She Keeps" hosted a KOOZIE SWAP.  I was lucky enough to get paired with Katherine at "Just Lovely".

Yesterday, I received my super cute Ice Cream Koozie!

How cute is that?!? It even has a little tab that holds your spoon for you!! I didn't even know they made Ice Cream Koozies!! And she also sent me a gift certificate to BASKIN ROBBINS so I can go pick up my favorite pint!!  Yummy and Summer-y!

Thanks so much Katherine!! I can't wait to use it!

Babies and football

A conversation I had with my husband today...

Me: I just found out Drew and Amber are pregnant and having a baby boy in October!!

Justin: congrats to them.. Bad timing though, it will be football season.

Me: hehe... I don't think they care about football season.

Justin: boo to them. We are having ours in the off-season... Too much money spent on football seats.

New Look

You may have noticed my NEW LOOK!

Sweet Jessica, from "This, That and Your Blog" designed my blog makeover.

This, That & Your Blog

She was AWESOME to work with. She not only is inexpensive (custom blog designs starting at $35), but also quick and very talented.

Also, when I first started considering a blog makeover, Jessica was the only person that responded. So she definitely deserved the job!

Thanks so much for the great job Jessica!!

A little bit of history

After marrying Justin on 06/07/08, I was able to adopt some of his family history.

His family came to America from Germany in the late 19th century. In 1874, his family started the WALTER BREWING COMPANY.

In the 1950's, the extended Walter family were the largest brewers in America, operating breweries in Eau Claire, Menasha, Appleton, and West Bend, Wisconsin as well as in Pueblo, & Trinidad, Colorado. Unable to match the marketing and sales budgets of the big nationals, one by one the Walter breweries closed in the 1960s and 70s.

The last one in Eau Claire survived until 1985 when it was sold to the Hibernia Brewing Company and then eventually closed its doors forever in Aug. 1990.

My father-in-law left before the company went belly-up and went to work at Anheuser Busch as a "brewmaster". This caused a lot of discord within his family since Anheuser Busch was part of the the reason for the Walter Brewing Company's demise. When he retired from Anheuser Busch, they printed his face on Budweiser beer cans for a month at the Jacksonville, FL plant. And, he retired with a great perk...he can pick up cases of beer at will for free pretty much for the rest of his life. Most of these end up at our house.. which makes me proud and happy to now be a "Walter".

Enough history for today... I will tell you the history of "my side of the family" on another day...

Bloggers Beware

You may or may not have heard about the lady "B" and her "daughter" April Rose.

Click here to get the whole story.

Basically this lady invented the idea of a terminally ill baby.. raised all sort of money, sold t-shirts, advertising on pro-life websites...

Turns out when she "gave birth" to her daughter April Rose, it was a complete sham. The pictures she posted were of a DOLL!!!

How horrible is this?!

This poor lady needs help. I hope everyone will pray that she finds all the help she needs.

On another note... makes you realize, not all bloggers are legit. It is sad that you even have to think about things like that but unfortunately that is reality. BLOGGERS BEWARE

Honesty is the best policy

Sweet June at "A love like Johhny and June" gave me an award!! I love her blog and also love singing "A love like Johnny and June" while I am reading her blog. It sometimes gets stuck in my head and I will be singing it all day! hehe

The rules are:
1. Tell your readers 10 things about you they may not know, but that are true
2. Tag 10 people with the award

10 Honest Things
1. I have not done any real laundry in over 3 weeks (besides washing my scrubs).
2. My dog tries to bite my husband whenever he sits too close to me or gives me any sort of affection... hehe
3. I have read all 4 of the "twilight books" 4 times each.
4. I sometimes am a little scared of the dark
5. I cry all the time at the silliest things... commercials, movies, hallmark cards... everything!
6. My dog has 53 articles of clothing.... I realize this sounds insane... I have only bought her one thing... apparently my mom really loves her "granddog"
7. Along with all the dog clothes... my mom has started buying massive amounts of clothing for my "future baby" one day (no I am NOT PREGNANT). A small pair of chip diamonds may or may not also be in that stash.
8. I cannot wait to be a nurse. I am so excited and scared and anxious to get started on the process in August.
9. I hate unloading ALL of the dishes in the dishwasher... sometimes I will unload everything but a few pieces and just wash them again... I am weird
10. I love to take pictures but they hardly ever make them into frames, picture albums etc.

Now to tag some other bloggers:
Kelly's Korner, A NYC Housewife in Training, BLC @ The Company She Keeps, Pretty in Pink Megan, Out-Numbered, Keep in Classy, Infertile Myrtle, It ain't easy being cheesy.

Ok... that isn't 10... but it was close!

Go forth and BE HONEST!!

Is this real life?

hehe... I stumbled across this today... thought I would share

anyone ever felt like this after going to the dentist??

1 down, forever to go :)

I came downstairs this morning to find this waiting for me...

The hubby arranged it himself... he said he was trying to arrange it to look like my bridal bouquet:

I thought it was super thoughtful...

And then he gave me my real present....

Since the traditional gift for the 1st year anniversary is "PAPER", he printed off a picture (on a piece of paper) of what I was getting...

turns out I got a brand new Mac Computer!

Hubby said I needed a nice reliable computer since I will be starting school in August. I have never owned or used a Mac before... hopefully it will be an easy transition.

After brunch at Roosters, we hit up Southpark Mall for a bit and bought a Wii Fit with some of the anniversary money that my Nana sent us.

After that, poor hubby started to feel really sick... he has been sick for over a week...

So we spent the rest of the night hanging out watching movies.

All in all, a great day and a great anniversary!!

I am a lucky girl

Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

My job has turned me into a liar. Not a big liar... just little white lies... but I have to tell a lot of them in order to get through my day.

For example....

When a lady with end stage Alzheimer's kept ringing the nurses bell and asking me if I could please make sure to keep "turning her fish because she didn't want it to burn", I did not explain to her that there was no fish cooking in her hospital room. I just told her "sure, I will take care of it for you... however, I am not a good cook so I may need some more instructions". She then proceeded to talk to me for 30 minutes about cooking. This is the most she had said in 3 days.

Another example....

We had a lady on our floor that had 3 types of cancer. She had been told earlier that day by her doctor that she would only have a few months to live. Although I had 14 patients that day (that is a LOT), I told her I plenty of time to stay in her room and pray with her and hold her hand while she cried. I ended up staying 15 hours at the hospital that day trying to play catch up but it was all worth it.

I guess its just part of the job. I am sure God will understand.

Introducing....

LOVELY

Thanks to BLC at The Company She Keeps for giving me this LOVELY award.

Rules are: Mention your tagger and tag other lovely bloggers

The Duncan Dialogues
, Legally Blonde Ambition, A Hock Perspective, and The Pink Tutu

not sure why but this award makes me think of the song "LOVERLY" in My Fair Lady.

incase you have never seen this before (SHAME ON YOU)... here it is for your viewing pleasure:

Patience is a virtue

a virtue that apparently I do not have...

So, as you know I got into nursing school.... well along with that I have a TON of shots/vaccines/titers and other such fun things to get before I can attend nursing school in August.

I was poked and prodded for most of these things during CNA school but had to go back today to get my 3rd does of the Hep B vaccine. So on Friday I call and make an appointment with my primary care doctor.

The receptionist: "Anytime on Monday will be fine... what is good with you?"

ME: "Well, how about 10am?"

Receptionist replies, "Sure... we'll see you Monday morning around 10ish"

10ish... ok... maybe this should have been a clue...

So, I show up today at 9:55am. I am a firm believer on showing up on time to everything. I hate being late. I sign in and sit down with my book that I have read at least 5 or 6 times.

Emily Giffin is a fellow Wake Forest Alum... which is why I originally started reading her books... but she is actually a great writer...

ANYWAY.... I finish my book (granted I only had about 40 pages left) and they still haven't called me back.

Finally around 11am they call my name and escort me back to a room. They then explain they cannot find my file....

Nurse: "So will it be under DALTON (my maiden name) or WALTER (my married name)"

ME: "Well I am not sure... I have this problem everytime I come here... I believe you guys still file it under Dalton but I am not sure why" (Yes, I am getting a little annoyed by now)

Nurse: "Ok, I will be right back"

30 MINUTES LATER......

Nurse: "Well, I found a AMY WALTON born in 1975... is that you?!"

ME: (blank stare) "um, no... that is not my name and I was born in 1982".

Nurse: "Well, we will find it later... but it turns out we don't have the Hep B vaccine... we wrote you a prescription to go to the pharmacy to pick up a vial of the vaccine... you can go pick it up and bring it back to the doctors office and we can then administer the vaccine to you"

ME: (blank stare -- thinking WTF?!?!?!?!?) "um, I really don't get it... I have never even heard of such a thing but I'll try"

It is now 12pm....I head over to the pharmacy and try and explain to them what is going on... they have to call 3 people over.. then explain I will have to pay for this vial.. they can't tell me how much it will be... I feel the tears coming on... not sure why... I grab my prescription and leave after saying some choice words to the pharmacist.

I then go to Employee Health over at the hospital where I work... they have me in and out in 15 minutes... no charge... why didn't I think of going there in the first place?!!

MY DOCTOR IS FIRED!!!!!!!!!!
